Connection of the fault reader -V.A.G 1551- and function selection
  Note!
In the place of the -V.A.G 1551- the vehicle's system checking unit -V.A.G 1552- may also be used, although the data can not be printed.
   
Connecting the -V.A.G 1551-
With the ignition off, connect the -V.A.G 1551- with the cable -V.A.G 1551/3A- to the diagnosis connector in the following way:
–  Remove the package compartment of the driver side.
–  The connector for diagnosis is on top of the fuse box.
–  Connect the fault reader with the cable -V.A.G 1551/3A-
  E01-0004
Indication on the display:

       1-Fast data transmission*        
*indicated alternately
  Note!
If no indication appears on the display, check the voltage in the fault reader -V.A.G 1551- according to the current circuit diagram.
Selecting function
  Note!
t  Using the HELP key of the -V.A.G 1551-, depending on the programme, other indications of use can be printed.
t  The key is used to continue with the process of the programme.
t  The PRINT key is used to turn on the printer (a light comes on on the key).
–  Turn on the ignition.
–  Press the key 1 for “Fast Data Transmission” mode.
 
V.A.G - Self-diagnosis              HELP
       2-Emission of intermittent codes*
Indication on the display:
–  Press keys 0 and 8 to enter the address code of the vehicle system “Electronics of the air conditioning and heating”.

Enter the address code XX               
Indication on the display:
–  Confirm entry with Q key.

Indication on the display after entering the address code 08:

If any of the fault indications appear on the display, the possible causes may be printed by using the HELP key.

Cable K does not connect to the positive pole
t  Faults occur at the beginning or during the programme (external interference?).

–  Check the diagnosis cables, the voltage supply and the ground connection.
–  After eliminating the possible causes of the faults, enter address code 08 once more for “electronics of the air conditioning and heating” and confirm with Q key.
