Testing
Testing
–  Close the bonnet.
–  Close doors, bonnet, windows and sun roof.
–  Connect the central diagnosis -VAS 5051- with the 3m cable -VAS 5051/5A-, with the ignition off, to the 16 pin vehicle diagnosis plug and select the address code “08” air conditioning electronics → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
–  Open all instrument panel vents.
–  Start the engine and operate at the maximum cooling power:
Vehicles fitted with Climatronic
–  Temperature preselection at lowest (for driver and passenger side).
Vehicles fitted with Climatic
–  With the button “AC” pressed, the speed “1” of the Fresh air turbine (01273-4124) -V2- is selected along with the lowest possible temperature.
–  Read the measurement value block for the Air temperature sender for the left hand side vent (00756) -G150 - and the Air temperature sender for the right hand side vent (00757) -G151- (Climatic: Temperature sender, centre vent (01296) -G191- → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
t  Theoretical values: Max. temperature 12°C (depending on the atmospheric temperature), difference between the measured values of less than 3°C
–  Set the air distribution to instrument panel vents.
–  Set the temperature on the left hand side of the Climatronic control unit (01320) -J255-/Air conditioning control unit -J301- to the highest possible setting.
t  Theoretical values: in the corresponding display field, the temperature rises to about that of the engine, in the corresponding display field for the passenger compartment, the temperature rises by less than 10°C
–  Set the temperature on the right hand side of the Climatronic control unit (01320) -J255-/Air conditioning control unit -J301- to the highest possible setting.
t  Theoretical values: in the corresponding display field the temperature rises to about that of the engine, the difference between the display fields is less than 8°C
–  Regulate the temperature selection for the driver side on the control and indication panel to the lowest possible value.
–  Take corresponding measurement values.
t  Theoretical values: The temperature for the left side (driver's side) falls in about 5 minutes to less than 12°C depending on the atmospheric temperature
–  Carry out this test in the same way for the opposite side.
If readings do not match specifications, check:
–  The coolant circuit for air → Engine, mechanics; Rep. Gr.19.
–  The correct incorporation of the heat exchanger for heating in the air conditioning on the cooling circuit → Engine, mechanics; Rep. Gr.19.
–  Check the activation and operation of the Servomotor for the left-hand side temperature flap (01809) -V158-, Servomotor for the right-hand side temperature flap (01810) -V159- (Climatic: Servomotor for the temperature flap (01271-4122) -V68- → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
–  The sponge material seal in the heat exchanger for heating in the air conditioning must be in good condition → Chapter.
–  The operation of the temperature flaps in the air distribution housing → Chapter.
–  The coolant thermostat (when the thermostat is faulty the coolant does not heat sufficiently) → Engine, mechanics; Rep. Gr.19.
