The four known physical states of water also apply to air conditioning refrigerants.

When water is heated in a container (heat absorption), the rising water vapour is visible. If this vapour is heated further by heat absorption, it turns into an invisible gas. This process is reversible. If heat is extracted from water in gaseous state, it first turns into vapour, then into water, and finally into ice.
