Removing and installing air conditioner compressor > < Forced ventilation: Removing and installing.
Compressor on its holder: Removing and installing.
Compressor on its holder: Removing and installing.
  Note
t  The compressor can be detached from the support and re-attached without opening up refrigerant pipes.
t  Following is the description of the removal and fitting of the compressor for a 2.0 litre petrol engine and a „Denso“ type „7 SEU 16“ compressor. There may be small differences in vehicles with a different engine or different compressor (depending on the engine concerned it may be necessary to remove or detach other auxiliary groups), see → Motor, mechanics; Rep. gr.13.
t  The refrigerant circuit must not be emptied; nor should the flexible tubes and the tubes for the refrigerant on the compressor be disconnected.
t  Do not unfasten refrigerant pipes and corresponding clips.
t  After detaching, use wire for example to attach compressor to longitudinal member. Never leave it hanging from refrigerant pipes.
t  Before removing the ribbed belt, mark its running direction with chalk or with a felt tipped pen. Running a used pulley in the opposite direction could damage it irreparably.
t  Depending on the engine fitted and the country, different compressors are fitted → Parts catalogue.
Removal:
–  Remove the upper engine protection → Engine, mechanics; Rep. gr.13.

–  Remove the centre sound proofing element → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.50.
  A10-1565
–  Mark the direction of rotation of the poly V-belt (illustration shows layout for 4 cylinder engine).
–  Release the Poly-V belt (the diagram shows the position for a 4 cylinder engine) and remove → Engine, Mechanics; Rep. gr.13.
  A13-0641
–  Disconnect the connection to the Compressor regulation valve, air conditioning -N280- on pin -1-.
–  Unscrew the attachment bolts -arrows- (25 Nm).
–  Detach the compressor and use wire, for example, to secure it to the vehicle.
Installation
Attach in reverse order; note the following:
  A10-1637
–  Before fitting the compressor, check the correct positioning of the two sleeves -arrow- on the support or on the compressor.
  A87-0634
–  Fit one packing plate each at the bolts -arrows- (tightening torque 25 Nm).
–  Check carefully following fitting of the compressor, the secure fitting of the refrigerant tubes. They must be secured in the supports designed for them (depending on the engine type).
–  After attaching the compressor, also check the refrigerant pipes and corresponding holders to ensure adequate clearance from other components. Also ensure that there is sufficient space between the belt, the support and the pulley.
