Expansion valve: functions and removing
  Note
t  First remove the refrigerant, using the a.c. loading station -SAT 4006D-.
t  It is possible to continue using the service equipment which has been used to date ⇒ Catalogue of workshop equipment, SAT or VAS.
t  Only the parts marked with a * may be replaced without opening or draining the refrigerant circuit.
t  All open components of the refrigerant circuit must be closed using suitable plugs to prevent the entrance of damp.

1 - Gasket between evaporator casing and dashboard*
2 - O-ring
q   11.10 mm; 1.78 mm
3 - Expansion valve
q   The hole must be sealed against water splashes
Uses
t  The expansion valve controls the flow and atomizes the refrigerant as it passes through, converting the vapour into gas as it leaves the evaporator, according to its heat content.
Removing
First carry out the following operations:
–  Before opening the refrigerant circuit, the refrigerant must be drained, e.g. using the a.c. loading station -SAT 4006D-.
  Note
It is illegal to dump refrigerant in the environment.
  WARNING
There is a freezing hazard.
If the circuit is not empty, refrigerant will come out.
Extract all the refrigerant before opening the circuit. If the refrigerant circuit is not opened after removing the refrigerant within 10 minutes, pressure may be generated in the circuit due to re-evaporation. Remove the refrigerant from the circuit again.
–  Unscrew bolts -8-.
–  Remove refrigerant hose -5- and refrigerant hose -6-.
t  Replace O-rings-4- and -9-.
–  Unscrew bolts -7-.
–  Remove the expansion valve -3-.
t  Replace O-rings-2- and -10-.
