General information: ignition system
t  Only the components which specifically relate to the ignition system are explained in this chapter. For the other components of the injection and ignition system → Chapter.
t  Disconnecting and connecting the battery must only be done with the ignition switched off, otherwise the engine control unit could be damaged.
t  The engine control unit is equipped with self-diagnosis.
t  Components marked with * are checked via the self-diagnosis. → Chapter, Fault memory: interrogating and erasing.
t  For trouble-free operation of the electrical components, a voltage of at least 11.5 V is necessary.
t  Before carrying out repairs and fault finding, the fault memory must be interrogated. → Chapter, Fault memory: interrogating and erasing.
t  During some checks it is possible that the control unit will recognise and store a fault. For this reason, the fault memory should be interrogated after completing all checks and repairs, and, if necessary, erased → Chapter, Fault memory: interrogating and erasing.
t  If after fault finding, repairs or component tests, the engine starts, runs for a short period and then stops, it could be that the immobiliser is blocking the engine control unit. In such a case, interrogate the fault memory, and, if necessary, adapt the control unit accordingly → Chapter.
Safety precautions → Chapter
Test data, spark plugs → Chapter
