Engine control unit with antitheft protection: Removing and installing, engine code BMS
Engine control unit with antitheft protection: Removing and installing, engine code BMS
To replace the engine control unit, connect the → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 and initiate the guided function „Replacing control unit“.
–  Switch ignition OFF.
Removal:
   
–  Open the line guide -1- and lift the locking catch -2-.
–  Remove the engine control unit from the bracket.

–  Undo the headless bolts -1- using pliers.
–  Turn the engine control unit -2- und unscrew the second breakaway bolt using pliers.

–  Remove the bracket -1- and the protective casing -2- from the engine control unit -3- in -the direction of the arrow-.
–  Unlock the engine control unit connectors and pull them off.
Installing
–  Fit plug connectors and lock in position.
–  Push protective housing over engine control unit.
–  Fit the protective casing support using new headless bolts
–  Tighten the headless bolts evenly, until the bolt heads break off.

–  Insert the engine control unit in the bracket of the spray wall until you can hear the lock -1- engaging.
–  Press the cable in the cable guide -1- and seal.
–  When replacing the engine control unit, erase the self adapting values and adapt to the engine control unit → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051„Guided function“
–  Consult fault memory; if necessary, repair any faults and then erase fault memory → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051„guided fault finding“
–  If the fault memory has been erased, you must generate the readiness code again.
–  Take vehicle for a test drive.
–  Again read control unit fault memory.
