Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Manual multimeter -V.A.G 1526D-, see equivalent → Anchor
  W00-10706
t  Measurement adapter / DSO (5-pin) -VAS 5565-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Ammeter clamp -V.A.G 1526B/2-
t  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 505X-, see equivalent → Anchor
  Note
t  The battery voltage and the diesel fuel temperature have a great influence on the current draw of the fuel pump. This is why it must be ensured that battery voltage is at least 12.5 V whilst checking.
t  Depending on the season, make sure that the vehicle is filled with winter diesel if necessary.
Test prerequisites
l  Battery voltage at least 12 V
l  Diesel fuel temperature above 10 °C
»Carry out the following work sequence«
–  Fold rear seat bench forwards.
  W00-10599
–  Raise cover of fuel delivery unit.
  N20-10606
–  First check that connector -arrow- is fitted securely by pulling connector without pressing catch. The connector can cause a fault if it has not been fitted correctly.
  N20-10623
–  Disconnect connector -1-.
  N20-10673
–  Connect test instrument/DSO adapter (5-pin) -VAS 5565- to connector and fuel delivery unit.
–  Connect pick-up clamp -A- to red cable - with lettering „pick-up clamp“ - of test instrument/DSO adapter (5-pin) -VAS 5565-.
  Note
The current clamp of multimeter -V.A.G 1715- can also be connected to red terminal with lettering „current clamp“ of adapter for measuring equipment / DSO (5-pin) -VAS 5565-.
–  Switch on the ignition.
–  Connect the Vehicle diagnostics tester -VAS 505X- and perform the guided function „Fuel pump: Actuate (Fuel pump: check “.
  Note
The fuel pump is now activated for 30 seconds.
–  Read off the current consumption on the hand-held multimeter -V.A.G 1526D-: Specification: min. 8,0 Amps, max. 14,0 Amps
–  If the measured value is not within specifications:
–  Remove fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
–  Check that the electrical lines between flange and fuel pump are connected and have continuity.
If no open circuit can be found
–  Replace fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
