  Note
t  When camshaft is turned, ensure crankshaft is not at TDC. Danger of valve/piston crown damage.
t  If the belt has been used and is made to work in the opposite direction it may be destroyed.
   
–  Place camshaft sprocket on the mark -arrow A-.
–  Check that the crankshaft is at TDC cylinder 1. The ground-down tooth on the crankshaft sprocket must align with the mark -2V- on the sealing flange -arrow B-.
–  Place toothed belt on crankshaft sprocket (observe direction of rotation).

–  Fit tensioning roller and tighten bolt by hand, the bolt -2- of the seal holder cover must engage in the interior of the existing recesses on the support plate -1- of the tensioning roller.
–  Loosen securing bolt on used tensioning roller.
–  Tension the toothed belt by turning the tensioning roller in the direction of arrow until the indicator -3- aligns with the groove in the base plate -arrow-.
–  Tighten securing bolt on tensioning roller.
   Tightening torque: 20 Nm
–  Now turn crankshaft twice fully in direction of engine rotation until it is again at TDC cylinder 1.
–  Now the position of the toothed belt and tensioning roller must be checked again.
–  Fit the drive train fastening console, engine side → .
–  Tighten bolts which secure the console to the cylinder head.
   Tightening torque: 50 Nm
–  Install lower toothed belt guard.
–  Install belt pulley/vibration damper.
–  Install tensioning element for ribbed belt.
–  Install the exhaust manifold protective plate.
   Tightening torque: 10 Nm
–  Fit upper toothed belt guard.
–  Install coolant expansion tank.
–  Fit ribbed belt → Chapter.
  Note
On fitting the ribbed belt, make sure that it is correctly located on the pulleys.
