q   Use counterhold -T20018B- to loosen and tighten
2 - Camshaft wheels
q   For exhaust camshaft
q   Note fitting position: the thin core of the camshaft sprocket points outwards and TDC mark of the cylinder can be seen. 1
3 - Exhaust camshaft seal
q   Replace → Chapter
4 - Cylinder head
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
q   Reworking valve seats → Chapter
q   Reworking sealing surface → Fig.

q   Dowel sleeves for bearing caps must be positioned in cylinder head

q   Testing → Chapter

q   Removing and fitting: cylinder head removed with the gasket tool -T20034/1-, cylinder head fitted → Chapter
8 - Valve plate spring

Cylinder head sealing surface: reworking
The dimension for reworking is measured through the holes for the cylinder head bolts a = minimum 139.2 mm.

Camshaft: checking axial clearance
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Support -T20020-
t  Dial gauge
Check with bucket tappets and chain removed and -2-and -4- bearing caps fitted.
Wear limit: max. 0.2 mm.

  Note
Sodium filled outlet valves must be properly prepared before scrapping. They must be cut through in the centre of the stem with a hacksaw. Avoid all contact with water. The prepared valves must be cast into a bucket of water (10 at a time). Keep the bucket at a safe distance, as a strong chemical reaction is produced in which the sodium burns off. Parts thus treated may be scrapped.
   
Sealing bearing cap/cylinder head joints
–  Carefully apply a thin coat of sealant → Parts Catalogueto both edges of sealing surfaces between double bearing cap and cylinder head -arrows- using a small screwdriver.
