Removal
Removal
–  Note safety precautions before starting work → Chapter.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted and if so consult the anti-theft code.
–  With the ignition switched off disconnect battery earth strap.
Commercial vehicles
–  Partially detach the front of the carpet covering the loading area.
   
–  Remove lower panels -1- of the partition.
–  Remove front panels -2-.
–  Remove floor protection plates -3-.
–  Separate the reinforcing cross member.
Kombi vehicles
–  Tilt rear seat forward.
–  Remove cover from fuel delivery unit.
Continued for all vehicles
–  Remove cover from fuel delivery unit.

–  Separate the connector -1-.
–  Separate the fuel supply and return pipes -4- and -3- that connect to the fuel distributor.
–  Relase supply tube -2- connected to the fuel distributor and breather hose -5-.
  Caution
Fuel supply pipes are under pressure. Before removing hose connections wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.

–  Remove union nut with spanner -U-40055A-.

–  Remove fuel delivery unit It will be necessary to turn the assemply to the left with tool -U-40073-, until it is released from its lower mounting.
  Note!
If the delivery unit is to be renewed then drain old delivery unit before disposal.
