Removing and installing radiator
Removing and installing radiator
t  Removing → Anchor
t  Fitting → Anchor
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Pliers for spring-loaded band-type clamps -VAS 6499-, see equivalent → Anchor
  W00-10700
t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.
Removing
  Note
Even when the radiator and condenser are correctly installed, slight impressions may be visible on the fins of these components. This does not mean that the components are damaged. If the fins are only very slightly distorted, this does not justify renewal of the radiator or the condenser.
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
–  Place the lock carrier plate into service position → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.50

–  Loosen the angled bracket -1- and remove the left hose from the charged air cooler.

–  Loosen the bracket -arrow- and remove the right hose from the charged air cooler.
  Note
Cove the charged air cooler and the hose with a clean cloth to prevent water entering.

–  Loosen the spring-type hose clip -arrow- and remove the bottom hose from the radiator.

–  Unplug electrical connection -1- from the radiator fan -V7-.
  Note
Disregard item -2-.

–  Loosen the spring-type hose clips -arrows- and remove the top hoses from the radiator.

–  Unscrew the bolts -1- that fasten the radiator to the lock carrier plate.
–  Release the unit from the condenser, coolant chiller and charged air cooler upwards from their bracket on the lock carrier.

–  Press the upper locking elements -1- on both sides to remove the air duct from the radiator. Take the duct out upwards -arrow-.

–  Remove air vent downwards.
–  Release the unit from the condenser, coolant chiller and charged air cooler upwards from their bracket on the lock carrier and press to the front so that the four securing screws -2- of the condenser on the coolant cooler can be accessed.
–  Unscrew the bolts -2- attaching the catalytic converter to the sump.
  Note
To prevent damage to condenser or to refrigerant lines/hoses, ensure that the lines and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.
–  Separate the condenser and place on the lock carrier.
–  Remove the radiator downwards.
Installing
–  Install the coolant radiator from beneath.
–  Insert both centring pins of the left coolant radiator in their mountings on the lock carrier.
Install in reverse order to dismantling, noting the following:

Secure all hose connections with original clamps.
–  Fit the lock carrier assembly: → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.50 .
–  Fill up coolant → Chapter.
