Catalytic converter with main exhaust pipe: removing and installing t  Removing → Anchor t  Installing → Anchor t  Tightening torques → Anchor Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor. Removing

–  Disconnect connector for activated charcoal reservoir solenoid valve -N80--1- and push electrical lines to side. –  Disconnect activated charcoal reservoir solenoid valve 1 -N80--1- from air duct. –  Remove bolts -arrows-. –  Remove air duct -2-.

–  Unplug connector -4- from air mass meter -G70-. –  Move electrical wiring at air cleaner housing clear. –  Remove air hose -1- to secondary air pump. –  Detach air intake hose -3- at air mass meter -G70-. –  Remove fastener -2- and detach air cleaner housing.

–  Detach vent hose -2- leading to exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18-. –  Disconnect the hose -4- from the crankshaft sump breather on the air duct. –  Detach air pipe -3- at throttle valve module -J338-.   Note Ignore -item 1-.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows-.for coolant expansion reservoir. –  Disconnect connector for insufficient coolant indicator switch -F66- at bottom of coolant expansion reservoir with coolant hoses -1- and -2-connected.

–  Disconnect connectors -1- for oxygen probe downstream of catalytic converter -G130- and -4- for oxygen probe -G39-. –  Move wires clear towards bottom of vehicle.   Note Ignore items -2- and -3-.

–  Unscrew bolt connections at catalytic converter/exhaust manifold -arrows-.

–  Release quick-release catches -1- and -2- and remove front sound-proofing. –  If present release quick-release catches -3- and remove rear sound-proofing.

–  Unscrew heat guard plate -1- from right propeller shaft.

–  Unscrew nut -2- at bracket for front exhaust pipe.   Note Ignore -item 1-.   Note The flexible pipe connection (de-coupling element) on the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10° – otherwise it can be damaged.

–  Loosen clamp -arrow- and push to rear. –  Remove initial exhaust pipe together with catalytic converter. Installing Reassembly is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note t  Renew seals and gaskets. t  All cable clamps must be replaced in the original position. t  Secure all screw joints with serial hose clips → Spare parts catalogue. –  Align exhaust system without tension → Chapter Tightening torques

1)  Renew nuts.
