Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.
Removing
  Note
All cable ties which were opened or cut during removal must be renewed at the same points.
  W00-0427
–  Release quick-release catches -1- and -2- and remove front sound-proofing.
–  If present release quick-release catches -3- and remove rear sound-proofing.
  Note
The flexible pipe connection (de-coupling element) on the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10° – otherwise it can be damaged.

–  Loosen clamp -arrow- and push to rear.

–  Unscrew heat guard plate -1- from right propeller shaft.
  A10-0961
–  Unscrew nut -2- at bracket for front exhaust pipe.
  Note
Ignore -item 1-.
  A26-10118
–  Remove bolts -arrows- securing front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter.
–  Detach front exhaust pipe from catalytic converter.
Installing
Reassembly is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

Renew seals, gaskets and self-locking nuts.
–  Align exhaust system without tension → Chapter

1)  Renew self-locking nuts.
