Removing and installing fuel pressure regulating valveN276
Removing and installing fuel pressure regulating valve -N276-

The fuel pressure regulating valve -N276--2- is located in the fuel rail. It maintains a constant pressure in the rail and the injector pipes (high-pressure fuel circuit).
If the pressure in the high-pressure fuel circuit is too high, the regulating valve opens to allow some of the fuel to flow back from the rail to the fuel tank via a return line.
If the pressure in the high-pressure fuel circuit is too low, the fuel pressure regulating valve -N276- closes and seals off the high-pressure section of the system from the low-pressure section.
  Note
The fuel pressure regulating valve -N276- cannot be re-used
Removing .
  WARNING
t  Always observe rules for cleanliness and instructions when working on fuel system → Chapter.
t  Always follow these rules for cleanliness and instructions before starting work and while working on the fuel system.

–  Remove the engine cover upwards -arrows-.
–  Remove rail element (high-pressure accumulator) → Chapter.
–  Before removal, clean area around the area of the thread (e.g. using commercial cold cleaning agent) for fuel pressure regulating valve -N276- (no dirt must enter the bore in the fuel rail).
  Note
Clean carefully; cleaning solvent must not enter the electrical connector.
–  Dry fuel pressure regulating valve -N276-.
–  Slacken union nut (counterhold at hexagonal flats on housing). Then unscrew and remove by hand.
–  Extract dirt from opening in rail (threads and sealing surface). Do not use tools or other instruments for this purpose.
  Note
Seal off bore in rail immediately with a suitable plug to prevent dirt from entering.
Installing .
  Note
t  The regulation valve for fuel pressure -N276- has no sealing, but a deformable metal seal and can therefore not be reused.
t  Note damage of the sealing surfaces (bite-edge sealing) and thread of the newregulation valve for fuel pressure -N276- .
t  Check sealing surface at bore in rail element.
t  The beginning of the thread and the deformable sealing lip of the fuel pressure regulating valve -N276- must be lubricated with Molykote grease.
–  Screw on union nut by hand.
–  Align new regulating valve so that the connecting line is free of tension after connector is attached.
–  Hold the housing of the regulation valve with a fork spanner and a clamp (for e.g. clamp for water pump) on the hexagon in this position.
–  To tighten union nut, use a suitable torque wrench along with a 30 mm open-end bit insert.
–  Install rail element (high-pressure accumulator) → Chapter.
l  Specified torque: Fuel system: Components overview → Chapter
–  After installation, run engine at moderate speed for several minutes and then switch off.
–  Ensure that the fuel system is completely sealed.
–  Read fault memory.
–  After completing the repair, road-test the vehicle. Accelerate with full throttle at least once. Then check the high-pressure section of the fuel system again for leaks.
–  Interrogate fault memory again.
