Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Sparkplug spanner -T20028-
t  Torque spanners -SAT 8010-
t  Compression recorder -V.A.G 1763- or Compression recorder -V.A.G 1381-

Test condition
l  Engine oil temperature, min. 30°C
Work sequence
   
–  Remove the upper camshaft housing cover -arrows-.
–  Disconnect the sparkplugs and the ignition wiring.
–  Remove the sparkplugs with spanner -T20028-.

–  Remove the 4-contact connector from the ignition transformer-arrow-.

–  Remove fuse no. 7 from the fuse box.
–  Have another mechanic depress the accelerator pedal to the floor, such that the throttle valve is completely open.
–  Measure the compression with compression recorder -V.A.G 1381- or -V.A.G 1763-.
  Note!
The handling of the tester is described in the instruction manual.
–  Operate the starter motor until the tester no longer indicates rising pressure.
Compression values
New: 10…15 bar
Wear limit: 7 bar
Admissible difference between all the cylinders: 3 bar.
–  Fit the sparkplugs with spanner -T20028- and tighten to a torque of 30 Nm.
–  Consult the fault memory → Chapter.
