Safety measures for working on fuel supply system
When removing or fitting the fuel gauge sender or fuel pump (fuel supply unit) with a full or half full tank, bear in mind the following:
  Caution
The fuel supply line is under pressure. Before loosening the hose connections, place a cloth around the connection. Then eliminate the pressure by carefully removing the hose.
t  Before starting work, near the fuel tank fitting hole there must be the intake hose of an operating extraction system to absorb the gases given off by the fuel. If an extractor system is not available, a radial fan may be used (with the engine outside the air flow) with an air flow greater than 15 m3/h.
t  Avoid fuel coming into contact with skin: use fuel-resistant gloves!
If test and measurement equipment is needed during a road test, the following must be taken into account:
t  Always install test and measurement equipment in the rear seat and have a second mechanic operate them from there. If test and measurement equipment is operated from the front passenger seat, the operator could be injured by the airbag in the event of an accident.
