Removing
Prerequisites
l  Engine at tepid temperature at most.
l  The pistons must not be positioned at TDC.
–  First see if the vehicle has a coded radio. If so, refer to the anti-theft code.
–  With the ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Remove the
–  Remove camshaft housing, → Chapter.
–  Remove roller rocker fingers together with support elements and lay aside on clean surface.
–  Ensure that the roller rocker fingers and the support elements are not mixed up.

–  Remove battery and battery retainer -arrows-.
–  Empty coolant → Chapter.
–  Loosen hose clips and pull coolant hoses off the thermostat cover.
–  Remove the dip stick guide pipe
–  Remove the fuel supply hose in the fuel rail.
  WARNING
Fuel system is under pressure! Wear safety gloves and glasses to avoid injury and contact with skin. Before opening the system place a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling fuel hose from connection.
–  Loosen or separate the following components:
t  the hose from the intake manifold to the active carbon filter
t  the low-pressure hose to the brake servo from the inlet manifold.
t  the 2-pin connector of the Knock sensor I -G61- (rear section of cylinder block) and the 4-pin connector of the pressure sender in the intake manifold, below the intake manifold, front right section
t  the connector of the engine speed sender below the dipstick guide pipe support, and remove the connector from its position on the support
t  the connectors of the coolant temperature sender, oil pressure switch and exhaust gases recirculation valve
t  the connectors of the injectors and the throttle control unit.
Engine code letters BBY, BBZ, BKY, BXW
t  the connector of the heated low pressure valve of the oil deflector.
t  the hose from the intake manifold to the active carbon filter
Continued for all vehicles
–  Partially remove the electric fittings and put to one side.
–  Remove front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold .
–  Undo the securing bolt of the rear notched belt guard, in the region of the right ring for the load hook.
  E00-0210
–  Fit the support -U-30025E- and raise engine slightly using spindle-A-.
  Note
Both rings for the load hook are fitted in the cylinder head; for this reason it is necessary to fix an additional support to intercept the engine at the cylinder block.
  E15-0149
–  As shown -in diagram-screw the counterhold -T10014- into the threaded hole above the coolant pump in the cylinder block. Tightening torques: 20 Nm.
–  Lift engine slightly using second spindle -B- until spindle -A- is relieved.
–  Remove spindle -A-.
–  Remove securing clamp of coolant pipe to coolant pump from thermostat cover.
  E15-0096
–  Loosen cylinder head bolts in the sequence indicated and remove using a M12 spanner from the kit -SAT 1006/2-.
–  Carefully remove cylinder head.
–  When separating the cylinder head, ensure that there are no connectors/supports still attached, and if necessary disconnect them.
