Valve gear - Components overview
1 - 20 Nm + 1/4 turn (90 °)
q   Renew
q   Use locking spanner -T10016- → Fig.to loosen and tighten
2 - Camshaft gear
q   Note the position when fitting the toothed belt → Chapter
3 - Oil seal
q   Only replace with camshaft fitted
q   Lightly lubricate the sealing lip of the oil seal
q   Renew → Chapter
4 - Secondary branch notched belt
q   Mark D.O.R. before removing
q   Check for wear
q   Do not kink
q   Removing, installing and tensioning → Chapter
5 - Camshaft housing
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Remove remnants of old sealant
q   Before fitting apply -D 188 003 A1- → ETKA (electronic parts catalogue)
q   When installing fit vertically from above onto studs and dowel pins
6 - 10 Nm + 1/4 turn (90 °)
q   Renew
q   Tighten from centre outwards
7 - Cover/support for Ignition transformer -N152-
8 - 10 Nm
9 - Roller rocker finger
q   Check roller bearing
q   Oil sliding surface
q   Use securing clip to clip onto support element when installing
10 - Semicones
11 - Plug
12 - 20 Nm
13 - Lifting eye
14 - Pressure retaining valve, 6 Nm
q   Clean the thread and fit with -D 154 102 A1- → ETKA (electronic catalogue of parts)
q   Do not over tighten; the valve could seize
15 - Supporting element
q   Check the oil injection hole
q   With hydraulic valve clearance compensation.
q   Do not mix them up
q   Before installing check camshaft axial clearance → Fig.
q   Oil sliding surface
16 - Valve plate spring
17 - Valve spring
q   Removing and installing
t  Dismounted cylinder head → Chapter, Valve shaft seals: replacing
t  Installed cylinder head → Chapter, Valve shaft seals: replacing
18 - Valve stem seal
q   Renew → Chapter
19 - Valve guide
q   Testing → Chapter
20 - Oil pressure switch -F1- 0.3 - 0.7 bar, 25 Nm
q   Testing → Chapter
q   In case of leakage, cut out and replace sealing ring
21 - Valves
q   Not to be reworked; only grinding-in permissible
q   Valve dimensions → Fig.
22 - Cylinder head
q   Valve seats: reworking → Chapter
q   Cylinder head sealing surface: reworking → Fig.
23 - 20 Nm
24 - Tension roller of the derived branch of the notched belt.
q   Testing → Chapter
q   Notched belt: fitting and tensioning → Chapter
25 - Seal bolt 45 Nm
q   Fit with -D 154 102 A1- → ETKA (electronic parts catalogue)
q   Do not screw too far
q   Maximum depth of entrance below support surface of camshaft housing: 2 mm
26 - Camshafts
q   Check axial clearance → Fig.
q   Oil before fitting (also the bearing of the axial bush)
q   Identification of the camshafts, distribution timing → Fig.
q   Replace the seal rings behind the assembly
q   Camshaft seals: replacement → Chapter
27 - O-ring
q   Renew
q   Oil before fitting

   
Camshaft sprockets with the counterhold -T10016-: Immobilise
–  Insert the locking pins in the locking holes on the camshaft sprockets and in the holes on the camshaft housing.
  Note
The two locking pins are correctly fitted if the final parts -D- are in line with line -A-.
–  Insert support -B- as far as possible in the intake camshaft sprocket -C-.
–  Once both sprockets are locked, the camshaft sprockets may be loosened or tightened.

Cylinder head sealing surface: reworking
t  Cylinder head reworking dimension: a = minimum 108.25 mm

Camshaft: checking axial clearance
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Support -T20020-
t  Dial gauge
Measure when the camshaft housing is removed and the cover is fitted.
t  Wear limit: max. 0.40 mm
