Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Adaptor lead -SAT 1348/3-3-
t  Adaptor -VAG 1318/20-
t  Remote control -VAG 1348/3A-

Test requirements
l  Fuses are OK.
l  Battery voltage, 11.5 V minimum.
l  Fuel pump relay OK.
Test sequence
–  Remove cover from fuse holder.
–  Remove the fuse for the fuel pump in the fuse holder. Fuses → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
   
–  Connect the remote control -VAG 1348/3A- with adaptor cable -SAT 1348/3-3- to the right hand side contact to fuel pump and battery positive (+).
–  Remove the engine protection along with the air filter (engine identification letters AUB, BBY, BBZ, BKY) → Chapter.
–  Remove the air filter housing (Engine identification letters BXW)

–  Unscrew and remove the bleeding valve cover from the fuel distributor.
  DANGER!
Bleeding should only be carried out when the engine is cold - there is a risk of fire from the released fuel vapour.
As a small amount of fuel may spill out, the bleed valve should be wrapped with a clean cloth

–  Fit adapter -VAG 1318/20-1- onto adapter -VAG 1318/20-.
–  Turn the cut-off tap anti-clockwise, until the valve is completely opened.
–  Manually screw adaptor -VAG 1318/20- to the fuel distributor bleeding valve.

–  Connect hose to adapter -VAG 1318/20-1- and insert hose end in a container to collect the fuel, see figure.
–  Turn the shut-off tap of the adaptor -VAG 1318/20-fully clockwise.
–  Operate remote control -VAG 1348/3A- until fuel flows free of air bubbles from bleed valve.
–  Turn the cut-off tap anti-clockwise, until the valve is completely opened.
–  Take the hose off the adapter -VAG 1318/20-1- and then theadapter -VAG 1318/20- off the fuel distributor bleeder valve.
–  Fit engine protection together with air filter.
–  Take the remote control -VAG 1348/3A- with the adapter cable -SAT 1348/3-3- and insert fuse, → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations .
