Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Hose clamp -T10255-, see equivalent → Anchor

Operation process
l  Tightening torque → Chapter „Sump, oil pump, balance shaft assembly - exploded view“
l  The camshaft is locked using the retention tool -3359-.
  Caution
If the bolts of the intermediate sprocket have loosened or the drive pinion in the crankshaft has been replaced or even the crankshaft itself, a new sprocket provided with a coating must be installed and the hub → Item, including bolts → Item as well as thrust washers have to be replaced. The backlash is otherwise not set correctly.
  Note
t  When the balance shaft assembly is re-installed that has been used until now, without renewing the drive pinion of the crankshaft or the crankshaft itself, proceed as follows. The intermediate gear wheel must also not have been loosened.
t  If the bolt for the idler gear has been slackened or the spur gear on the crankshaft or the crankshaft itself have been renewed, you must install a new idler gear with the appropriate coating. Procedure for installation → Chapter.
t  Renew the bolts tightened with specified tightening angle.

–  Lock the balance shaft using the counterhold -T10255-, turning the balance shaft when necessary.
l  Locking tool pin must engage in groove in balancer shaft when doing this.
–  Insert dowel sleeves if no dowel sleeves for centring balancer shaft module are fitted on cylinder block.
–  Place balancer shaft module on cylinder block.
l  With the balance shaft locked in position, the idler gear must engage in the spur gear on the crankshaft.
l  The intermediate gear wheel must have a slight tooth backlash.

–  Tighten bolts for balancer shaft module → Fig.
–  Remove thecounterholder -3359-.
Further installation is carried out in reverse order; note the following:
–  Fit the oil sump → Chapter.
