Variator: removing and installing
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Spanner -T40080-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Hose clamp -T10252-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Hose clamp -T10115-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Turning tool -T10020-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench -VAG 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor.

Removing
–  Remove high-pressure pump → Chapter.
–  Remove cylinder head cover → Chapter
   
–  Remove the coolant hose -1 and 2-, screw out the screw -3- and loosen the coolant tube from the thermal screening plate.

–  Unscrew the cable holder -arrow-.

–  Remove the variator cover -arrows-.

–  Make the mark on the camshaft sprocket and the mark on the notched belt guard coincide. The concavities -arrows- now face each other perpendicularly.

–  Mount and fasten the retention tool -T10252- as shown in the fig. -arrows-.
–  Release the fastening screw of the controller using the wrench -T40080-.

–  Compress the chain tensioning device -arrow A-, and lock using the retention tool -T10115--arrow B-.
–  Loosen the securing bolt of the variator, and remove it together with the chain.
Installing

l  The camshafts are locked with the rig pin -T10252-.
–  Place the chain onto the variator.

–  Position the variator facing the exhaust camshaft, ensuring that mark -A- and shaft -B- are aligned.

–  Fit the chain in this position, first at the top -arrow- onto the intake camshaft gear.

–  By using the rotation tool -T10020- rotate the inlet camshaft slowly in the direction -arrow--A-, until the setter can be mounted on the camshaft.
  Note
If the bolt does not correspond with the notch: Remove the chain and refit it.
–  Renew the fixing bolt for the camshaft adjuster.
–  Tighten mounting bolt to 20 Nm + 45° (1/8 turn). Use the key -T40080- for this purpose.

–  Extract the retention tool -T10115--arrow B-.
Continue installation following reverse order for removing.
–  Install high-pressure pump → Chapter.
