Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Plastigage
Operation process
  Note
t  Do not interchange used bearing shells.
t  Bearing shells worn down to nickel layer must be renewed.
–  Remove the crankshaft bearing caps then clean the bearing caps and supports.
–  Place the Plastigage thread the same with of the bearing on to the journal or the half bearing.
l  The Plastigage must be positioned in the centre of the bearing shell.
–  Fit the bearing cap and tighten to 60 Nm without rotating the crankshaft.
–  Remove bearing cap again.
–  Check the width of the Plastigage thread against the measurement scale.
Radial clearance:
l  New: 0.017 ... 0.037 mm.
l  Wear limit: 0.15 mm.
