Engine control unit -J623- with antitheft protection: removal and installation (Altea, Altea XL, Leon) t  Removing → Anchor t  Installing → Anchor To replace the engine control unit, connect the → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 and initiate the guided function „Replacing control unit“. Removing –  Switch ignition OFF. –  Remove the wiper arms: → Electrical system; Rep. gr.92. –  Remove plenum chamber bulkhead → General body repairs; Rep. gr.50.

–  Press the bracket down -in the direction of the arrow- and remove the engine control unit.

–  Undo the headless bolts -arrow- using pliers.

–  Insert a screwdriver between the two fuses -arrows-. –  Carefully press the screwdriver in the -direction of the arrow- and lift the retaining clip -1- at the same time.

–  Bend the retaining clip -1- in the -direction of the arrow- until the connectors are removed.

–  Press the lock of the connector -in the direction of the arrow- and unplug the connectors.

Installing –  Attach the connector to the engine control unit and push the lock to the end -in the direction of the arrow-.

–  Attach the retaining clip -1- to the connector and press in -the direction of the arrow-. –  Fit the pins -2- as far as possible into the openings in the engine valve timing housing.

–  Secure the retaining clip with new headless bolts to the engine control unit -arrows-. –  Tighten the headless bolts evenly until the bolt heads break off -arrows-.

–  Insert the engine control unit in the bracket and push upwards -in the direction of the arrow-. –  Install plenum chamber bulkhead → Body repairs; Rep. gr.50 –  Install wiper arms → Electrical system; Rep. gr.92
