Fitting
  Note
t  From model year 2009, a diamond coated washer is installed. The washer prevent the crankshaft from being turned when the securing bolt is tightened.
t  Install a diamond coated washer -7- when a washer was not fitted as original equipment → Electronic parts catalogue„ETKA“.
t  The washer is fitted -7- between the bearing bush -5- and the crankshaft chain sprocket.
t  Note that all contact surfaces from the securing bolt to the crankshaft chain sprocket must be free of oil and grease.
  N13-10227
–  Clean sealing surfaces carefully. They must be free of oil and grease.
1 - Locating bolt
2 - Crankshaft pulley
3 - Diamond coated washer (clipped onto crankshaft belt pulley)
4 - Crankshaft oil seal
5 - Bush
6 - O ring
7 - Diamond coated washer
Install in reverse order to dismantling, noting the following:
  Note
Make sure that the contact surfaces of the pulley, the attachment bolt, the sleeve and the crankshaft sprocket are free of grease and oil.
  Note
t  The distribution casing is still sealed towards the engine with a gasket and sealant → catalogue of spare parts.
t  The sealant → catalogue of spare parts is to prevent leaks between the distribution casing and the joints -1- and -2-.
t  The sealant point must have a diameter of 10 mm and a thickness of approx. 1 mm.
t  Do not apply sealant until directly before the valve timing housing is fitted.
  N13-10421
–  Apply the silicone sealant -D 176 501 A1- to the sealant on the camshaft housing / cylinder head -1- and cylinder head / cylinder block -2-.
–  Fit new gasket onto dowel pins.
–  For ease of assembly, tighten two studs -M6x80- on the cylinder head and engine block
–  Fit valve timing housing with crankshaft bearing bush simultaneously onto studs, dowel pins and crankshaft journal.
–  Tighten valve timing housing securing bolts evenly and diagonally.
Ensure that timing housing is not canted.
–  Align the engine using a shaking movement so that the supports are not under any tension.
  Note
Specified torques for assembly mountings → Chapter.
–  Install crankshaft belt pulley → Chapter.
Continue installation following reverse order for removing.
