Replacing the compressor drive head seal Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Gearbox support -T10108-

t  Assembly tool -T10208-

t  Extractor tool -T20143- t  Repair kit → Electronic spare parts catalogue (ETKA ).   Note All components of the repair kit have to be used! Removal:

–  Secure the compressor to to the gearbox support -T10108- using the 2 screws -arrows-.

–  Pry off the circlip -1- with a slot-head screwdriver -2-.

–  Remove seal -1- using extractor hook -T20143/1-.

Installing –  Mount the assembly cone -T10208/5- and assembly sleeve -T10208/4- together. –  Install the new sealing ring -1- in -the direction of the arrow- over the assembly cone -T10208/5- into the assembly sleeve -T10208/4-.

–  Remove the assembly cone -T10208/5- in -the direction of the arrow- from the assembly sleeve-T10208/4-.

–  Mount the assembly sleeve -T10208/4- onto the compressor shaft.

–  Drive the sealing ring onto the assembly sleeve -T10208/4- to the stop using the press tool -T10208/2-.

–  Also guide in the circlip -1- to the stop using the assembly tool -T10208/2- Changing the compressor fluid

–  Loosen the fixing screws of the socket on the drive in the specified sequence -A- to -H-. –  Turn the gearbox support -T10108- until the shaft points to the ground.

–  Remove the fastening screws and extract the socket from the drive -1-. –  Drain the oil of the compressor of the socket on the drive. –  Collect escaping fuel in a container. –  Turn the gearbox support -T10108- until the synchromesh rings point upwards. –  Remove sealant residues from compressor and socket on the drive using a rotating brush, e.g. a hand drill with a plastic brush (wear eye protection). –  Clean sealing surfaces carefully. They must be free of oil and grease. –  Dirt and sealant residues must not be allowed to enter the space.

–  Fill up the space with new oil-arrow-.   Note Sealant must not be applied too thickly, otherwise excess sealant may enter the space and cause damage. –  Apply sealant to the surface of the compressor. The line of sealant should not be thicker than 2 ... 3 mm and must go along the inner side of the tapped holes.

Do not apply sealant until directly before the valve drive head is fitted. –  Tighten the new fixing screws of the socket on the drive in the specified sequence -A- to -H- to „12 Nm“.
