Before removing the ribbed belt, mark its running direction with chalk or with a felt tipped pen. If the belt runs in the opposite direction when it is refitted, this can cause it to rupture. When fitting the belt, ensure that it lies correctly in the pulleys.
   
1 - Pulley
q   For Poly-V belt
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
2 - 10 Nm +1/4 turn further (90°)
q   Renew
3 - 23 Nm
4 - Poly V-belt tensioning element
q   To slacken ribbed belt Poly-V, rotate with spanner.
q   Immobilise the tensioner with the counterhold -T20167-.
5 - Bracket for ancillary mechanical units
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
Tightening order of bracket for ancillary mechanical units → Fig.
6 - 23 Nm
7 - Shield
8 - 23 Nm
9 - Alternator
q   Removing and fitting → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27
q   To facilitate the positioning of the alternator push back slightly, the threaded bushes for securing bolts.
10 - 45 Nm
q   Fit with thread locking agent → ETKA (electronic parts catalogue)
q   Note correct sequence when tightening → Anchor
11 - Bush
12 - 25 Nm
13 - Air conditioning compressor
q   Removing and fitting → Air conditioning; Rep. gr.87
14 - Poly-V belt
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
q   Mark direction of rotation with chalk or felt pen before removing
q   Check for wear.
q   Do not kink.
q   Routing of poly V-belt → Anchor
