Checking charge air system for leaks > < Turbocharging - overview
Removing and installing charge air cooler
Removing and installing charge air cooler
Removing:
–  Remove the sound insulation → Bodywork, exterior installation work; Rep. gr.50
–  Remove bumper cover → Bumpers; Rep. gr.63.
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
   
–  Remove right charge air hose -arrows-.

–  Remove left charge air hose -arrows-.
–  Remove radiator cowl → Chapter.
–  Remove the radiator → Chapter.
–  Remove air deflector elements on lock carrier → Body - front; Rep. gr.50.

–  Remove centre guide element -A- on front end -arrows-.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- for charge air cooler mountings.

–  Unbolt condenser from charge air cooler -arrows-.
  Note
The securing bolts of the condenser are difficult to access! With the aid of a second mechanic, lift the charge air cooler out of the radiator mountings. The charge air cooler can now be moved »back and forth« to allow access to the securing bolts.
–  Attach condenser to lock carrier using cable ties.
–  Take out charge air cooler from underneath.
Installing:
Installation is carried out in reverse order. The following should be taken into account:
The couplings and air hoses of the supercharging system must be free from oil and grease before assembling. However (applies only to quick-release couplings); the seal and the sealing surface of quick-release couplings should be lubricated lightly with oil → Chapter.
Tightening torques for charge air cooler → Chapter.
Tightening torques for front end → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.63
