–  Check the thermostat while cold: the large valve retainer should be in contact with all the surface of the O-ring -arrow-
Otherwise:
–  Replace the Cooling system thermostat managed on the basis of a map of characteristics -F265-

–  Connect the contacts of the Cooling system thermostat managed on the basis of a map of characteristics -F265- to the battery using the cables in the auxiliary measurement set -VAG 1594C-. Using pliers, carefully place the map-controlled engine cooling thermostat -F265- in a container, immersing vertically until the valve is covered by a mixture of coolant (mixing ratio: 50 % G12).
  WARNING
Avoid contact with the metallic part of the thermostat, risk of burn injuries!
As the resistance heats up, the temperature of the internal wax of the thermostat rises.

–  After ten minutes check whether there is a minimum separation distance of 7 mm -arrow-.
If a minimum distance of 7 mm is observed:
–  Disconnect thermostat power supply.
  Note
The test should not continue once the minimum separation distance is observed, otherwise this may cause damage to the thermostat.
If a minimum distance of 7 mm is not observed:
–  Replace the map-controlled engine cooling thermostat -F265- → Chapter.
