Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Manual multimeter -VAG 1526C-, see equivalent → Anchor
  W00-10311
t  Auxiliary cable kit -VAG 1594C-, see equivalent → Anchor

  A20-1066
–  Release carefully electrical connection -arrow- on sealing flange and take off.
  A20-1067
–  Connect the multimeter for the measurement of the resistance between contacts -2- and -3-.
  A20-1079
Sender fittedSender on the lower limitSender on the upper limit
Fuel gauge senders -G-Approx. 270 ΩApprox. 70 Ω

–  The measurement value 0 Ω indicates a short circuit; the value ∞ Ω indicates an open circuit is at hand.
  Note
To check the resistance values of a „full tank“ or those of an „empty tank“ the fuel supply unit must be removed and the sender floater moved to the upper or lower limit.
When the fuel level indicator is removed and due to the large floater range of movement, the following values are obtained:

Sender removedSender on the lower limitSender on the upper limit
Fuel level gauge sender -GApprox. 290 ΩApprox. 54 Ω

–  Connect the multimeter and measure the resistance between contacts -3- and -4-.
  A20-1079
Sender fitted or removedSender in any position
Fuel gauge senders -G-Approx. 340 Ω
