Driveshaft: repairing > < Removing
Fitting
Fitting
Before fitting, clean any remains of paint or corrosion on the thread/cogs of the outer joint.
Vehicles from 04.00 onwards
–  Before fitting the driveshaft, lubricate
t  the outer joint gear,
t  the outer joint thread,
t  the wheel hub gear,
t  the contact surface and the thread of the dodecagonal nut
with oil.
Continues for all vehicles
Left hand driveshaft
–  Fit the driveshaft.
–  Fit the inner joint onto the flanged shaft.
–  Tighten the bolts.
–  Insert the outer joint as far as possible into the cogs of the wheel hub.
–  Insert the hexagonal bolt of the driveshaft, and tighten to approx. 50 Nm.
–  Screw the ball joint on the steering knuckle.
–  Lower the vehicle.
–  Apply the brake (a second mechanic is required).
–  Tighten the hexagonal bolt of the driveshaft.
Right-hand side driveshaft
–  Replace the securing ring of the inner joint gear.
–  Lubricate the right-hand side inner joint gear with grease -G 000 603-.
–  Fit the right-hand side inner joint all the way onto the axle.
–  Fit the inner joint as far as possible by hitting with a plastic hammer, for example.
–  Insert the outer joint as far as possible into the cogs of the wheel hub.
–  Insert the hexagonal bolt of the driveshaft, and tighten to approx. 50 Nm.
–  Screw the ball joint on the steering knuckle.
–  Lower the vehicle.
–  Apply the brake (a second mechanic is required).
–  Tighten the hexagonal bolt of the driveshaft.
Tightening torques:
Ball joint to steering knuckle → Chapter
Driveshaft to wheel hub → Chapter
Left-hand side driveshaft to flanged shaft → Chapter
Wheel bolts to wheel hub → Chapter
