  Note
t  The wheel bearing should not support weight when the hexagonal bolt is completely loosened. The vehicles own weight will damage the wheel bearing and considerably reduce its service life.
t  Do not move the vehicle, if the propeller shaft is removed or completely removed from the wheel hub. If the vehicle must be moved, install an external joint first instead of a propeller shaft and tighten at 50 Nm.
–  Fully remove the hexagonal bolt of the half-shaft → Chapter.
–  Remove wheel → Chapter.
–  Remove the brake calliper and hang onto the body with a piece of wire → Brake system; Rep. gr. 46
–  Remove the ABS speed sensor → Brake system; Rep. gr. 46
–  Remove brake disc.
–  Remove the cover plate from the stub axle.

Loosen the nut -1- by a couple of turns and leave on the ball joint -2- to protect the thread.
–  Using the ball joint extractor -3287 A-, loosen the steering rod head from the wheel bearing housing -2- and then remove the nut -1-.

–  Slacken off nuts -arrows-.
  Note
During disassembly and assembly work, take care that the rubber bellow of the ball joint is not damaged. Where necessary, protect the rubber bellow of the ball joint against damaged.
–  Push the propeller shaft as far as possible out of the wheel hub (in the direction of the gearbox). Use the extractor -T20001A-, if necessary.

–  Fit Separator device -3424- in the steering knuckle groove.
–  Turn the wrench 90° and remove it from the Separator device -3424-.
–  Then fit the motordriven lift -V.A.G 1383 A- from below the steering knuckle.
–  First release the ball joint from the traverse swinging arm to then extract the stub axle from the telescopic arm.
  Note
If the wheel bearing housing is removed, the joint must be removed and refitted. New nuts must be used for this purpose.
