Stone impact protection for the track rod: Removing and installing   Note The stone deflector of the track rod is only fitted in case of vehicles with heavy duty running gear. Replace the stone deflector in case of removed track rod

–  Press clips -1- forwards out of stone deflector -2-. –  Unclip stone deflector -2- from track rod -3-. Installation is carried out in reverse order. When installing the stone deflector, ensure that it is correctly engaged on the track rod. Replace the stone deflector in case of installed track rod   Note The procedure for renewing the stone deflector is described and illustrated for the right side of the vehicle. Removal: –  Cut open the stone deflector in the vicinity of the bolt connections at the trapezium link/track rod using a knife. Take care not to damage track rod or other suspension parts.

–  Press clip -3- forwards out of stone deflector -2-. –  Press clip -1- forwards out of stone deflector -2- until head of clip contacts trapezium link. 4  -  Track rod

–  Remove the head of the clips -1- in the ⇒ displayed area in the figure. Do not damage other components of the running gear. 2  -  Track rod 3  -  Stone deflector –  Pull the rest of clip -1- rearwards out of stone deflector. –  Release the stone deflector from the track rod. Installation Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following:

–  Make a cut in new stone deflector at markings -A- (for installation on right side of vehicle) or at markings -B- (left side of vehicle). –  Fit the stone deflector on the inside first (side facing centre of vehicle), then on the outside.

–  File down the clip for the inside end of the stone deflector about 2 mm -arrows-.

–  Push the filed-down clip on the inside end of the stone deflector through the track rod and the stone deflector from the rear. –  Clip stone deflector onto track rod. Ensure that stone deflector is correctly engaged.

–  Press clips -1- and -3- rearwards into stone deflector -2-.
