Checking steering system for leaks
Checking steering system for leaks
  Note
After assembly work and if the hydraulic oil is short in the compensation tank, check the steering system for leakages.
–  Start engine.
–  Turn the steering wheel to both sides until stop and hold it a little at both the stops. This builds up the highest possible pressure.
In order not to damage the pump, the steering wheel should not be held at the steering lock for longer than 10 seconds.
Check the following components for leaks with the steering in this position:
t  Oil seal of the steering ratchet in the valve housing of the steering drive.
t  All pipe connections
t  Oil seals of the gear rack
The boots must be turned back for this test.
–  Remove the spring clips and hose clips with lug fasteners from the boot.
–  Turn back the boot.
If there was oil on the steering box or on the dust guards, the power steering box must be changed.
