Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Pliers for spring-type clips -V.A.G 1275- → Anchor see equivalency
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalence → Anchor
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-, see equivalence → Anchor
This overview covers LHD and RHD vehicles (layout is similar)
  Note
t  Renew bolts and self-locking nuts.
t  No welding or adjustment work is allowed on the elements of the steering system.
t  To grease the steering rack, use grease for the steering box . Allocation → Spare parts catalogue.

1  - Track rod ball joint
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
q   Check dust hatches for damage and correct position.
2  - Counter nut, 40 Nm
3  - Clamp
q   Always replace.
q   For correct version refer to → Parts catalogue
4  - Thrust piece
q   Check for damage
q   The toe-in must not be twisted after positioning,
q   It may be replaced with the steering box mounted
q   The track rod must be removed for replacement → Chapter.
5  - O-ring
q   Always replace.
6  - Power steering box
q   Lubricate toothed rod with correct grease: Allocation: → Parts catalogue
q   Different versions available → Parts catalogue
7  - Hose clip (with lug fastener)
q   Always replace.
q   Tighten with the -V.A.G 1275-
8  - Link bar, 100 Nm
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
q   Lubricate the joint with the correct grease: Allocation: → Parts catalogue
9  - Strainer
q   Replace after each removal
10  - Seal
q   Replace after each removal
11  - Seal
q   Replace after each removal
12  - Servotronic solenoid valve -N119-
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
q   To check component values connect vehicle diagnosis, measuring and information system - VAS 505X- and select troubleshooting → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
13  - Bolt.
q   3 Nm
q   Always observe correct tightening sequence of bolts → Chapter.
