Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-
  W00-0120
t  Engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- with universal gearbox support -V.A.G 1359/2-
Repairing thread by recutting or inserting a threaded insert is not permitted.
Correct repair is only possible by fitting new nut(s). The nut holder plate -7M0 801 392- is supplied as replacement part for this.
Repairing welded nut in right-hand sill

–  Remove spring clip for bellows on filler neck.

–  Unbolt filler neck from body -arrow-.
–  Support tank using engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-.

–  Unbolt filler neck -1- from body -arrow-.
  N42-0084
–  Unbolt tank hangers -2--arrows-.
–  Push tank as far as possible towards middle of vehicle.
–  Remove bolts for strut, if not yet done.
  WARNING
Wear eye protection.

–  Drill out damaged welded nut(s) -1- to 12.5 mm core Ø.
Do not tilt drill when drilling.

–  Lever plug out of mounting hole -arrow-.

–  Guide nut holder plate into mounting hole.

1 - Nut holder plate -7M0 801 392-
–  Guide nut holder plate in until the holes in the welded nuts in the sill align with the nuts on the nut holder plate.
–  Bolt strut with new bolts M 12 x 1.5 x 35 -N 905 705 01-.
–  Tighten bolts to 110 Nm and turn 90° further.
–  Protect sill against corrosion with cavity preservative -D 330 KD1 A2- through mounting hole.
–  Seal mounting hole with plug.
–  Install tank in reverse order.
Repairing welded nut in left-hand longitudinal member
Welded nut(s) in left longitudinal member/sill are repaired in the same way as those on the right. The tank is not loosened to do this.
