Measures for rectifying commonly occurring faults on particular models → Technical Service Handbook
If faults occur in the sensors and components being monitored, they will be stored in the fault memory together with an indication of the type of fault.
Fault detection and fault types
t  A fault which is detected uninterrupted for 2 seconds, will be stored in fault memory as a permanent fault (static fault).
t  A fault already stored as a static fault will be converted to a sporadic fault (occasionally occurring fault), if the fault is no longer detected for 4 seconds after switching on ignition.
t  If a fault is no longer detected during the last 40 driving cycles, it will be erased from the fault memory. A driving cycle means that the ignition was switched on for at least 5 minutes and a speed of 30 km/h (approx. 19 mph) was exceeded at least once.
