Halogen headlamps: Removing and installing Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-   Note t  Do not disconnect the mass tape from the terminal. t  The front bumper trim does not need to be removed for replacing the headlamp. t  The illustrations show removal and installation of the left headlight. This applies respectively for the right headlight. t  Following every removal and installation, the headlight must be readjusted → Chapter. The adjustment must be checked → Chapter; you can obtain further information in the „Maintenance Manual“; → BookletKF1 . Removing: –  Switch off ignition and all electrical loads, and pull out ignition key.

–  Unscrew the five fixing screws -1- of the radiator grille → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.66.

–  Disconnect the electric connectors of the headlights. 1 -  Plug connector for the bulb for the headlight dipped beam, left side -M29-/bulb for the headlight full-beam, left side -M30- or bulb for the headlight dipped beam, left side -M31-/bulb for the headlight full-beam, right side -M32- 2 -  Plug connector for the side light bulb, left side -M1- / daytime running light, left side -L174- or Side light bulb, right side -M3- / daytime running light, left side -L175- 3 -  Plug connector for bulb for front left indicator lamp -M5- or bulb for front right indicator lamp -M7- 4 -  Plug connector for headlamp range adjustment left-hand servomotor -V48- orheadlamp range adjustment right-hand servomotor -V49-   Caution t  If the headlight is not removed correctly, there is a risk of damaging the headlight, wing and / or front bumper. t  The paint on the front bumper could be scratched. t  When removing the headlamp, proceed carefully and without applying force in the sequence described.

–  Unscrew the fixing screws -2- of the headlight support -4-. –  Unscrew the fixing screws -1- of the bodywork support -4-. –  Remove the retaining clips -5- of the Bowden cable for the support -4-. –  Unscrew the fixing screws -3- and -6- from the headlight on the bodywork.

–  Separate the upper part of the bumper -arrow A- . –  Push away the upper section of the headlight -arrow B- and remove the attachments -1- of the headlight for the bumper. –  Remove the headlight from the support in the bodywork. Installing: Install in the same way but in reverse order of removal. When doing this, note the following:

–  First tighten the fixing screws -1- of the bodywork support -4-. –  Insert bolts -2-, -3- und -6-. –  Control the headlight position. The clearance with respect to the bodywork should be even. –  Adapt sleeves → Item and → Item until the headlights are matched to the bodywork → Rep. gr.00. –  Check headlight functions.   Note Following each removal and installation of a headlight, check the installation position of the headlight → Chapter and adjustment → Chapter.
