Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Engine/gearbox jack with adapter, e.g. - V.A.G 1383 A- with -V.A.G 1359/2-
Removing:
  Note
t  The coil spring does not have to be removed in order to remove the shock absorber.
t  Before commencing work, determine the measurement -a- → Chapter.
–  Remove wheel.
–  Remove the rear wheelhouse liner → Body Work; Rep. gr.66.
–  Place engine/gearbox jack with attachment underneath and support rear suspension at shock absorber mounting.
Only on vehicles equipped with an Xenon headlights
–  Disconnect the tension rod for the sender at the rear of the assembky carrier → Electrical System; Rep. gr.94.
   
Continued for all vehicles
–  Remove bolts -1- and -2-.
–  Take out shock absorber.

Installing:
–  Insert shock absorber and fasten with screws -1- and -2-.
–  Tighten the screws -1- to the specified tightening torque.
–  Do not tighten yet screw of rear axle/shock absorber -2-.
  Note
When tightening the screw/nut for shock absorber mounting/axle, the dimension -a- must be maintained → Chapter.
–  Tighten screw/nut -2- to axle body to the specified tightening torque - the vehicle must be in the unladen condition → Chapter.
–  Install the rear wheelhouse liner → Body Work; Rep. gr.66.
–  Installing and tightening the wheel.

Tightening torques:
Shock absorber to body
t  Use new screws!
30 Nm + 90°
Shock absorber to rear suspension
t  Use new screws and nuts!
40 Nm + 90°
Wheel bolts120 Nm
