Removing and installing axle studs > < Summary of components of wheel bearing - disc brake
Removing and installing the wheel hub with wheel bearing - disc brake
Removing and installing the wheel hub with wheel bearing - disc brake
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Drive bushing -MP3-427 (40-21)-
t  Hub cap extractor -MP5-404 (VW 637/2)-
Removing:
–  Remove rear wheel.
   
–  Release cap from its position by gently tapping the claw of the hub cap extractor.

–  Press off cap.
  S42-0061
–  Unscrew screws -A-, remove brake caliper and attach e.g. with wire to body.
  Note
Do not unscrew the brake hose to remove the brake caliper.
–  Screw out the Phillips head screws of the brake disc and remove brake disc.
–  Release twelve-point nut.
–  Remove wheel hub with wheel bearing from axle stud.
  Caution
On vehicles with ABS make sure the sensor ring is not damaged.
Installing:
–  Carefully pull the wheel hub with wheel bearing up to the stop onto axle stud.
  Caution
On vehicles with ABS make sure the sensor ring is not damaged.
  Note
t  Do not tilt the wheel hub with wheel bearing on the axle stud.
t  Use new twelve-point nuts.
t  Replace cap after each removal.
t  Damaged caps allow moisture to penetrate.
–  Screw on new twelve-point nut and tighten.
–  Install brake disc and secure with screw.

–  Install brake caliper and tighten screws -A-.
  S42-0062
–  Drive in new cap.
–  Attach the wheel.

Tightening torques:
Brake carrier with brake caliper to axle housing30 Nm +30°
Twelve-point nut to axle stud
t  Use new nut!
70 Nm +30°
Brake disc to wheel hub4 Nm
Wheel bolts120 Nm
