Testing fuel injection rate
Test conditions
l  The fuel pressure must be OK, test → Chapter
l  Injection valves must be installed in the fuel rail and fuel line connected.
l  Fuel temperature 15...20°C, fuel must be according to the valid standards.
–  Insert injection valve to be tested in a measuring glass, e.g. -V.A.G 1602-.
–  Remove fuse No. 30 from the fuse holder below the dash panel.
–  Connect a terminal of fuse socket no. 30 and battery positive (+) with adapter cables from the measuring tool set, so that the fuel delivery unit runs.
  Note
This step is only intended to ensure that the fuel delivery unit runs when the engine is switched off.
   
–  Connect a contact of the injection valve on the engine mass using adapter cables from the mesuring tool set.
–  Connect the second contact of the injection valve with adapter cable to the remote control, e.g. -V.A.G 1348/3 A- with adapter cable, e.g. -V.A.G 1348/3-2-.
–  Connect alligator clip to the battery (+).
–  Activate the remote control -V.A.G 1348/3 A- for 30 seconds.
Also perform a visual inspection of the jet formation.
–  Repeat the measurement on all injectors. Always use a new measuring glass.
–  After the measurement of all valves, deactivate the voltage supply of the fuel delivery unit.
–  Place the measuring glasses on a flat surface and compare the quantities of fuel injected.
Nominal value per injection valve:
1.0/37 kW Engine: 48...54 ml
1.4/44; 50 kW engine: 57...65 ml
The injection rate must be the same for all injection valves.
If the measurement obtained for one or several injectors is below or above the specification:
–  Replace the faulty injector.
The injectors are installed in the reverse order for removal. Pay attention to the following:
t  Replace the O-rings on all the injectors and moisten lightly with clean engine oil.
t  Fit the fuel rail with the installed injection valves to the intake manifold and tighten screws uniformly to 20 Nm.
