| The test boxes -V.A.G 1598/31- and -V.A.G 1598/22- are designed in such a way that they can be simultaneously connected to the wiring loom of the engine control unit and to the actual engine control unit. |

| The advantage being that the electronic engine control remains fully operational with the test box connected (e.g. measuring signals while the engine is running). |
| t
| Use the test box -V.A.G 1598/22- for the engine with engine identification characters BUD and use the test box -V.A.G 1598/31 - for all the other engines. |

| Whether the control unit remains connected to the test box or not, is described in the relevant test procedures. |
| t
| The contact numbers of the connector of the control unit and the socket numbers of the test box are identical. |

| Release the plug latches and remove the control unit plugs from the engine control unit. |
