Only for vehicles with autom. gearbox
The engine control unit receives from the gearbox control unit the information: Gear engaged (selector lever in 1/2/3/R/D) or no gear engaged (selector lever in P or N)
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552 - with cable -V.A.G 1551/3, 3A, 3B, 3C-
Test condition
l  The selector lever of the automatic gearbox must be in position “P” or “N”.
l  Air conditioning switched off.
Test sequence
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-. Switch ignition on and select address word 01 “Engine electronics” → Chapter.
–  Select function 08 “Read measured value block” and display group 056.
   
–  Check the display value in display field 4.
Specified value:
00000 (selector lever in P or N)
00010 (selector lever in 1/2/3/R/D)
If the specified value is reached:
–  Select function 06 “End output” and switch ignition off.
If the specified value is not reached:
–  Check the data bus → Chapter.
  
Reading measured value block 56     ->
 840 rpm      840 rpm     5 Nm     00000
