Performing actuator diagnosis
Performing actuator diagnosis
With the actuator diagnosis the following parts are activated in the sequence indicated:
   
1.Fuel pump relay -J17-
2.Solenoid valve 1 for activated charcoal filter -N80-

For engine with engine identification characters AZQ, BME up to 11.05
   
3.Exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18-

  Note
t  The actuator diagnosis can only be carried out when the engine is not running and the ignition is switched on.
t  The actuator diagnosis is aborted when the engine is started or when a signal from the rotary speed sender is detected.
t  The actuators are tested acoustically or by touch.
t  If final control diagnosis is to be repeated wirthout starting the engine in-between, switch ignition off for about 40 seconds.
t  The ignition must be switched off before starting up the engine after the actuator diagnosis.
Test conditions
   
l  Fuses must be OK in compliance with the current flow diagram
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3, 3A, 3B, 3C-
Procedure
–  Connect vehicle diagnosis system, measurement and information system -V.A.G 1552-. Switch ignition on and select address word 01 “Engine electronics” → Chapter.
–  Select function 03“Actuator diagnosis”.

Readout on display:
The fuel pump relay - J17- (relay holder, relay position 4) must continue clicking until the next control element is actuated by pressing the →.
  Note
During the activation of the fuel pump relay, the fuel pump -J17- must also be heard to run at intervals.
If the relay does not click:
–  Test wiring and plug connections to the fuel pump relay -J17- according to the current flow diagram.
–  Press →.
  
Actuator diagnosis                ->
Fuel pump relay-J17
Readout on display:
The solenoid valve must continue clicking until the next control element is actuated by pressing the →.
If the solenoid valve does not click:
–  Read measured value block, display group 070 → Chapter if necessary test wiring and plug connections to solenoid valve 1 for activated charcoal filter -N80- according to current flow diagram.
–  Press →.
For engine with engine identification characters AZQ, BME
  
Actuator diagnosis                ->
Solenoid valve 1 for activated charcoal filter system -N80
Readout on display:
Valve must click until → is pressed.
If the valve does not click:
–  Test wiring and plug connections to the exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- according to the current flow diagram.
–  Press →.

Actuator diagnosis
Exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18
Readout on display:
–  Select 06 for the function “End output” and switch the ignition off.
