Code the engine control unit -J248-
If the code matching the vehicle is not displayed or if the engine control unit -J248- was replaced, it is then necessary to code the control unit as follows.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3, 3A, 3B oder 3C-
Procedure
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-. Switch ignition on and select address word 01 “Engine electronics” → Chapter.
–  Enter function 07 “Code control unit”.
   
Readout on display:
–  Enter code number by referring to table of codes and confirm the entry with Q.

The vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- displays the control unit identification, e. g.:
–  Enter function 06 “End output” and confirm with Q.
–  Switch ignition off and on again.
  Note
The entered coding is activated by switching the ignition on and off again.
