Checking glow plugs
Checking glow plugs
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Voltage tester (e. g. -V.A.G 1527 B-)
t  Flexible-head wrench for glow plugs (e.g. -3220-)
Test condition
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 volts
Test sequence
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Remove engine cover.
   To do so pull the front and rear engine cover upwards with a sudden motion.
–  Remove glow plug connectors from the glow plugs.
–  Connect the wire of the voltage tester to battery positive (+).
   
–  Apply test prod of the voltage tester to each glow plug in turn.
Diode lights up: Glow plug O.K.
Diode does not light up:
–  Replace glow plug.
–  If necessary remove and install glow plugs with flexible-head wrench (e.g. -3220-).
   Tightening torque: 15 Nm
