Topping up ATF > < Checking and topping up ATF level

Inspecting ATF level
Test conditions
l  Gearbox not in emergency running mode, ATF temperature not above 30°C.
l  Vehicle on level ground
l  Selector lever in “P”
Inspection
   
–  Attach the reservoir of the ATF filling system - V.A.G 1924- to the vehicle.
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with diagnostic cable -V.A.G 1551/3- → Chapter.
–  Enter address word “02 gearbox electronics” and move forward until “select function XX” appears in the display.
–  Start engine.
–  Raise vehicle.
–  Position the catch pan under the gearbox.

–  Press 0 and 8 for the function “Read measured value block” and confirm entry with the key Q.
–  Press 0, 0 and 2 for the function “display group number 002” and confirm entry with the key Q.

Readout on display:
The third display field indicates the ATF temperature.
  Note
At the start of the inspection the ATF temperature must not exceed 30 °C.
–  Bring ATF to test temperature.
Test temperature: 35 °C to 45 °C
 
Reading measured value block         2   ->
0%        4%         30°C         12.9 V
–  Remove screw plug for ATF inspection in the oil pan -arrow-.
The ATF present in the overflow tube flows out.
If ATF drips out of the hole:
It is not necessary to top up with ATF.
–  Tighten screw plug with new gasket ring to 15 Nm.
This completes the ATF inspection.
