Interrogating fault memory
–  Connect vehicle system tester - V.A.G 1552-. Switch on the ignition and select the gearbox control unit with “Address word” 02 → Chapter.
–  Press 0 and 2 for the function “Interrogate fault memory” and confirm the entry with Q.
   
The display shows the number of faults stored in the memory or “no fault detected!” will be displayed.
If no fault is stored:
–  Select function 06 “End output” and confirm entry with Q.
If one or several faults are stored:
–  Press .
 
X faults detected
Read-out of fault number on display, e.g.:
–  Press .

Fault number: 00258             035     
Read-out of fault source with fault type on display, e.g.:
–  Press .
The stored faults are displayed in sequence.
–  Select function 06 “End output” and confirm entry with Q.
–  Refer to the fault table to remove the indicated faults → Chapter.
  Note
During testing and installation other control units may also detect faults, e.g. pulled-out connectors. This is why you must conclude the self-diagnosis by interrogating and erasing the fault memories of all control units. For this you must proceed as follows:
–  Press twice 0 for address word “Automatic test sequence” and confirm entry with Q.
The -V.A.G 1552- sends all known address words in sequence.
