Removing and installing radiator
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Catch pan, e.g. -VAS 6208-
t  Pliers for spring strap clamps
l  Ignition and all electrical components switched off, ignition key withdrawn.
Removing
–  Remove front bumper → Body Work; Rep. gr.63.
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
   
–  Disconnect plug -1- from thermoswitch -F18- and plug -2- from radiator fan.
–  Pull out retaining clip -3- up to the stop and disconnect bottom as well as top coolant hose from radiator.
Vehicles without air conditioning
  S19-0078
–  Unscrew fixing screws for radiator bearing -arrows- and remove the radiator together with the fan shroud downwards.
Vehicles with air conditioning
  WARNING
Do not open the refrigerant circuit of the air conditioning system.
  Note
In order to avoid damage to the condenser as well as to the refrigerant lines and hoses, ensure that the lines and hoses are not over-tensioned, kinked or bent.
–  Remove V-ribbed belt → Chapter.
–  Remove connector from the AC compressor.
–  Remove AC compressor → Heating, Air Conditioning; Rep. gr.87 and attach to the lock carrier.
–  Remove retaining clips of the collant hoses at the fan shroud.
  S19-0080
–  Remove the lock carrier with component parts → Body Work; Rep. gr.50 and lay aside.
  S10-0128
–  Unscrew fixing screws at AC condenser -arrows-.
  Note
Do not suspend the AC condenser to the wires.
–  Attach AC condenser to lock carrier.
  S19-0081
–  Unscrew fixing screws for radiator bearing -arrows- and carefully remove the radiator together with the fan shroud.
Install
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Pay attention to the following:
–  Top up coolant → Chapter.
