Removing –  Switch off ignition and withdraw ignition key.

–  Pull out oil dipstick -1-. –  Release the nut -2-. –  Remove engine cover -3- in -direction of arrow-. –  Drain coolant → Chapter. –  Remove upper part of collecting intake manifold as follows:

–  Remove intake hose -1--arrows-. The ventilation hose -2- remains connected. –  Unplug connectors from the throttle valve control unit -J338-. –  Detach coolant hoses to throttle valve control unit (straight connection to quick coupling at heat exchanger). –  Detach vacuum hose from fuel pressure regulator. –  Release front screws of top part/bottom part of intake manifold.

–  Detach ventilation hose -1-. –  Release screws -2- at the intake manifold support.   Note Seal intake passages in the bottom part of the intake manifold with a clean cloth. –  Detach vacuum hose from combination valve.   WARNING The fuel feed line is pressurized! Place cleaning cloths around the connection point before detaching hose connections. Reduce pressure by carefully removing the hose.

–  Detach feed line -2- and return-flow line from fuel pressure regulator and catch the fuel which leaks out. –  Disconnect plugs -3- from hall sender -G40-. –  Disconnect the plugs -4- from the injection valves -N30 bis N33-, unclip the cable rail -5- and expose the wiring loom. –  Remove inlet line and pressure line of secondary air pump. –  Disconnect the following plug connections: t  for secondary air pump motor t  for spark plugs with extractor -T10112A- (unclip cable) t  for coolant temperature sender –  Detach coolant hose at cylinder head. –  Unscrew connection fitting with coolant hoses from cylinder head. To do so, unscrew the cable clip from the cylinder head cover and press the coolant pipe upwards. –  Remove holder at tensioning element for V-ribbed belt. –  Remove top toothed belt guard.

–  Position camshaft sprocket on TDC for cylinder 1 by rotating at the crankshaft. The marking on the camshaft sprocket must be aligned with the arrow on the toothed belt guard. –  Slacken tensioning pulley and take timing belt off camshaft sprocket. –  Turn crankshaft slightly back. –  Unscrew upper screw of rear toothed belt guard. –  Unscrew pre-exhaust pipe with catalytic converter and support.

–  Unscrew protective cover -arrows- and disconnect 4-pin plug connection (black) to lambda probe upstream catalytic converter -G39-. –  Unclip the cable for lamba probe from the guides. –  Remove cylinder head cover.

–  Release the cylinder head bolts in the specified sequence and remove.   Note Remove the „Polydrive“ cylinder head bolts with socket insert -T10070-. –  Carefully remove the cylinder head.
